Top 5 tech trends for 2012
We're only 2 weeks out from screaming 'Happy New Year!' So we salute 2011 and take a look at the top 5 tech trends that we think will be prominent in 2012.
Tablets. We really got to enjoy them this year, and tablets are only going to get sexier and smarter. Not only will we see the next gen e.g. iPad3, but more brands entering the market, which means more choice and with it some price competition.
App explosion. Most of us would use an App on a daily basis, whether that’s to download music or check what time the bus is coming. Apps will continue to get smarter, all aimed at making at our lives easier when on the go - from mobile payments to searching for location based services. More app stores will be introduced as well. We all know the App store for Apple, then there are new ‘stores’ slated for coming year including Windows Store for Windows as part of the Windows 8 release, Telstra’s game offering via the T-Box, and more movie streaming options such as Quickflix.
Cloud. Cloud technology is already here and companies such as Optus and Apple are already using the technology to benefit it’s customers in many ways. Less reliance on traditional ‘out of box’ software programs, omitting the need to install the same program across multiple computers, safer storage of valuable documents etc… the benefits are many, and many companies will continue to embrace it.
Recycling. If you’re fortunate enough to always have the latest and greatest gadget, put your old gadgets to good use and not land fill. Hand it down to a family member, friend or colleague, or try selling or donating it. If there are no takers, don’t throw it in the bin! Check your local council for designated tech clean up days to ensure they are disposed of properly. Check out our other article this month on eWaste.
