MacBook Air - value for money?

So is it worth the extra money? some say wait until the price drops.
Comparing the new with the regular HDD model we see a price difference of $1300.
They say performance is barely distinguishable in the new from the old. It boots up faster (12secs) reading from the disk was a bit faster but writing to the disk was worse.
Battery performance was no better. Life much the same.
But, where there is a lot of activity the previous entire machine slowdowns were not noticeable.
But some question whether the pluses equate to $1300. I guess that's for individuals to decide but for personal use and without a big budget maybe you can do with less but the lightness and slim frame has to be very attractive to many.
So, I guess, at the end of the day it's up to you, just don't expect faith to move mountains.
