Windows XP or previous versions of the operating system will be stuck with version 8, or a competitor




There are several technologies used in the new IE that are not available for XP, like Direct2D, that was only introduced with Windows 7, and has been introduced to Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 as a platform update.
