Tech columnist Chris Null gave ABC News his recommendations for the best laptops for students.

With a 12.1-inch computer screen, this tablet PC -- a laptop that will translate handwriting into text -- is perfect for the "bad typer who wants to keep notes digitally," Null says. Although most students think of them as business devices, they get better battery life than larger laptops and, at only 3.7 pounds, they're not going to weigh down your backpack. Null calls them "an interesting alternative that people should give a whirl," although tablet PCs tend to be a bit more expensive than regular laptops.
