Geeks, Gadgets and University Professors
October 24th 2007 22:09
You know that I went out to the University to see the Professor and he'd been helpful but not too encouraging about my having not enrolled after my year's deferrment, well, naturally, my dad, being my dad and all, wanted to know what had happened.
When he found out that my enrolment next year could not be certain, he blew a gasket and the ...........hit the fan. He started yelling and screaming at me and Mum started to cry, dad than blamed me for making mum cry, when in fact it was him.
He went storming out to his study and Mum, still crying as she worked, made him some scones and a nice hot cocolate with marshmallows and still crying took it into him to calm him down.
Later she said she' spoken to dad and he wanted to see my credit card and find out what I was doing to shore up my chances.
I arranged for her to get me the latest HSC books, the thin ones, on Physics and Computer studies and the standard 4U maths books and I've been working on them ever since, it is only one more week before I see the Professor again to tell him what I've been doing, and you really can't achieve too much in two weeks especially when you don't really get cracking until the second week.
Meanwhile I was researching the Web to find out more about electronics and update myself on the subjects now offering for my preferred course.
Since dad was really coming down heavily on me I decided I'd see if I could do any good for myself at work.
The boss said he'd give me a reference saying I was a hard worker but that was just about it.
I asked for a raise, I hadn't had one all the time I was there. Surprisingly he agreed, and I then asked could I be transferred to the computing area.
Go and see Adam and see what you can do for yourself but I suspect all that you'll be doing there will be playing messenger boy and sat at a keyboard from time to time, much like a typist or junior clerk.
Adam agreed to take me on and I've been working there this week doing everyone else's bidding and not learning a lot but at least I'm in the right area.
My dad, if not the Professor, would give me top marks for that. I'll tell you more later but I'm certainly snowed under and all I'll have time for today is two little gadgets. I hope you like them.
It looks like a fan, doesn't it, but it is just the opposite. It is a windmill which can be used to charge its internal battery ready to power an iPod for 30 minutes and a cellphone for 4 minutes (that says something about power consumption, doesn't it?).
There's also an add on solar panel which, with 4 strung together, can power the base unit.
Not yet released.
NOW do you know
How to Permanently Delete Pictures and Files From Memory Cards?
Transfer all pictures from your memory card that you want to save into a folder on your PC. Once all of these files are "removed" from the card, format the card. This may be done by accessing your digital camera's settings. After formatting the card, switch the camera back to "picture taking" mode. Take pictures of the floor or the wall until the memory stick has been completely filled. Format the memory card again.
