The Mercedes Concept - a triumph of modern technology
June 3rd 2008 06:09
Lookin' good! I was going to put this one under Technology but now I think it should go under Motoring.
What to do? It's a problem, ain't it dude?
Well, I guess it's time technology got a good fix.
More than a dozen ideas for enhancing the safety, drive technology and comfort of future Mercedes passenger cars.
Just look at that, doesn't it look just so COOL. Plenty of room in the back seat and the technology, heh?
The guys used innovative-design electronic accelerator and brake pedals. Sensors in these “pedals” transmit the driver’s commands to the engine and brake system by means of electrical impulses. This takes up much less room than mechanical pedals, increasing the length of the front by 120 millimetres. The driver’s and front passenger’s seats are further forward, so providing more space for the rear passengers.
That's for the driver, hey, dude, that's US.
Both doors open forwards or from the centre (centre-opening). The choice is yours.
Get the panels on the dash, ain't they somethin' else agin, phew!
There is an innovative instrumentation and control system which offers the driver more flexible information delivery and at the same time reduces fatigue.
The dials and displays are programmable and the driver can call up a wide range of information at the push of a button on the steering wheel. This is directly in the driver's field of vision so it will not distract the driver from his driving. Cool, eh?
Well, sorry, motoring, technology won this round, maybe next time you'll get one.

Well chosen car, rather like it myself despite its undoubted virtuosity.
